Here at Accent On Business, we work with clients from many different professional and personal backgrounds. Whether they are doctors, salespeople, junior executives or administrators, our clients come to us with needs as diverse as they are. Some seek to improve their presentation skills, others are looking to overcome a fear of public speaking, and still others simply want to improve their overall communication skills or create a memorable “elevator speech.” In the end, however, all share a common bond – to be the best they can be at what they do. Recently, one of our regular clients did just that and he wrote us to share news of his achievement.
Tom Barrett, owner of Green Water Infrastructure and an Accent On Business client in 2009, was honored with his industry’s highest recognition. The Indiana Nursery and Landscape Association (INLA) bestowed its prestigious Award of Merit on Tom at the Green Excellence Award ceremony at the Westin Hotel in Indianapolis, which event was held in conjunction with the Indiana Green Expo at the Indiana Convention Center. The Award of Merit is given annually to an individual, corporation or government agency which has contributed significantly to the Indiana Landscape Horticulture Industry.
In recognizing Tom for his achievement, the INLA noted his tremendous ongoing commitment and dedication to his field, including the launch of a national certification program for industry professionals.
Clearly, Tom’s hard work within his industry paid off in a huge way. Equally as important to his success was the effort he devoted to honing his skills away from the office. We’re talking about his public speaking skills. Tom has been coming in to our offices for professional coaching approximately twice per month for six months. During that time, he has made great strides in improving and fine-tuning his presentations. In fact, Tom gave a direct nod to Accent On Business for helping him attain his very best as a speaker. As Tom stated in his email to our office, “Thanks for all your help and support, your coaching and Accent On Business played a huge role in my getting this award.”
